Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a few of the questions we are most frequently asked.

Q: How often should I pump my septic tank?
A: For most normal households, we suggest every 3 to five years.  This keeps the amount of solids in your tank to a minimum.

Q: I have water seeping up from the ground.  Will pumping it take care of the problem?
A: No.  If you have septic water seeping up through the ground it is a sign of damaged or failed field lines or if the leak is between the house and the tank, it is a break in the main line.  Pumping the tank will only relieve the problem until the tank refills and then then you will have the problem again.

Q: How much does it cost to replace field lines?
A: We can't provide this information over the phone as there are many factors that have to be considered such as the area in which you live, the topography of your lot, lakes, wells, streams, and other factors. We do offer free estimates.

Q: Can you install field lines without pulling a permit?

A:  No.  State law requires that all septic systems be permitted and inspected by the servicing Environmental Health unit.  This law is designed to protect the homeowner, and insure that installed septic systems will not contaminate ground water supplies.
